Abstract

Background: In 2022, ovarian cancer accounted for an estimated 324,603 new cases and 206,956 deaths globally, including 15,130 new cases in Indonesia. Reliable symptom awareness is relevant to primary care, but educational outcomes should not be confused with cancer screening.

Objective: To describe changes in ovarian cancer knowledge, attitudes, and recorded psychomotor scores among two community-dwelling women following a brief, home-based audiovisual nursing education sequence.

Methods: This uncontrolled two-case descriptive nursing education study involved women aged 33 and 38 years in Tanjung Baru Village, Ogan Komering Ulu, Indonesia, during a January–June 2026 study period. Each completed six home-based meetings comprising baseline assessment, four education-focused meetings using video, booklet, and discussion, and final assessment. Knowledge was assessed with a 20-item questionnaire before and at the final meeting; attitude was recorded using a four-category response scale, and psychomotor outcomes were reported as checklist percentages. Session lengths and calendar dates were not documented. Descriptive, case-level analysis was informed by relevant CARE reporting items and TIDieR intervention-description principles; no comparison group was included.

Results: Knowledge scores increased from 7/20 (35%) to 18/20 (90%) in Case 1 and from 8/20 (40%) to 19/20 (95%) in Case 2. Attitude percentages increased from 53% to 65% and from 52% to 78%, respectively. Reported psychomotor percentages changed from 35% to 90% and from 40% to 95%, exactly mirroring knowledge percentages. Both women completed six visits. No delayed follow-up, validated instrument properties, or item-level psychomotor records were available.

Conclusion: The education sequence was followed by higher recorded scores in these two cases; the data do not establish a causal effect, long-term retention, or improved screening or health behavior. Future evaluations require validated measures, reproducible materials, and longer-term comparison.
