Abstract

Unhealthy lifestyles are the dominant factors accelerating the increase in morbidity and mortality due to non-communicable diseases (NCDs). The habit of consuming high-sugar foods, lack of physical activity and stress, have become a modern lifestyle that is difficult to avoid. Ironically, approximately 80% of diabetes and NCD cases can actually be prevented through the adoption of a healthy lifestyle. This study purpose to determine the effect of education using Sharia videos on coffee drinkers on the prevention of NCDs. This study used a quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach. The total population of coffee drinkers aged 20-60 years is 1,2 million people. The sample size was 450 respondents selected using a multistage sampling technique. The sample size was determined based on Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) standards. Sample is Coffee drinkers were selected according to the inclusion criteria: aged 25-50 years, not experiencing NCDs, drinking coffee 2-3 times/day, and willing to be respondents. The independent variable in this study was the role of the Community Health Center (Puskesmas) as a health education center, while the dependent variable was the use of Islamic videos and the prevention of NCDs. Data collection was conducted using a Likert-scale questionnaire (1-5) prepared by the researcher and tested for validity and reliability. Data analysis was performed using SEM. The results of the study indicate that health education at the Puskesmas through Islamic videos has a significant effect on NCD prevention efforts. All variables, namely the Puskesmas, education, and the use of Islamic videos, were proven to contribute to NCD prevention. The results of the SEM test showed that the Goodness of Fit Index (GFI) and p-value > 0.05. Conclusion: Islamic videos are effective as an educational medium for coffee drinkers as an effort to prevent NCDs. Nurses are expected to use videos to provide education for NCD prevention.
